The third largest city in Romania, Timișoara has the charm of a small town and the opportunities of a big city. The city is an important academic center with four public universities: West University of Timișoara, Polytechnic University of Timișoara, ”Victor Babeș” University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Timișoara, and Banat’s University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine “King Michael I of Romania” from Timișoara.

In September 2016, Timișoara was selected to become the European Capital of Culture in 2021.

The conference meetings will be held in the main building of West University of Timișoara located on Pârvan Boulevard No. 4. The conference venue is easily reachable from the center of the town. The building is surrounded by green areas and close to the banks of Bega river – see https://www.uvt.ro/en/

Travel

Timișoara can be reached by plane, as follows:

1. directly to ”Traian Vuia” International Airport from Timișoara. The airport is 12 km far from downtown (where all conference venues are located).

There are several daily flights from/to major European destinations operated by Lufthansa, TaromRyanair and WizzAir – see http://aerotim.ro/en/

Express Bus line 4 links the airport with central Timisoara, tickets are available at the parking ticket pay desk, inside the terminal (around 0.55 euro one way). The schedule of the Express line 4 is available (in Romanian) at the following link: http://ratt.ro/grafice/e4b.pdf

You can order a taxi in the airport at the Information Office located in the public area. Taxi fare costs around 8-10 Euro from the airport to downtown. Rent-a-car is also available at the airport.

2. to Bucharest, then to Timișoara. There are direct flights from Bucharest ”Henri Coandă” International Airport to ”Traian Vuia” International Airport from Timișoara – see http://www.bucharestairports.ro/en

3. to Budapest, then to Timișoara. There are regular express buses directly from Budapest Airport in Hungary to Timisoara. The trip takes around 5 hours – see e.g.

4. to Sibiu, then to Timișoara. You may come to Sibiu International Airport – see http://www.sibiuairport.ro/ From Sibiu to Timișoara you may travel by train or by car.

Timișoara can be reached by train. Direct daily trains to Timisoara are available from Budapest (a 6 hours trip), Vienna (8 hours) and Münich (15 hours), Bucharest (10 hours), see e.g.

You may use the tram from the railway station (“Gara Timisoara Nord”) to the Cathedral (“Catedrala Mitropolitana”). Then you can walk 10 minutes to the West University. Or you may order a taxi (the fare is between 0.3 Euro/km – 0.5 Euro/km).
